What they do not record is how well the bottom of it was set into the material below the slab.

A capped stub needs all of that plus the vertical route, which in a finished house means locating a chase or accepting an exterior line, and that is the larger part of the cost. Both cases depend on the same check first, because suction applied to a stub that never reached the aggregate produces noise and no reduction, and no sensible figure can be written before that is established.

Attic access in these subdivisions is generally good, which keeps the fan out of sight and the run concealed wherever a full stack already exists. Joints get checked at each floor the pipe passes through, since a leaking run inside a wall cavity distributes soil gas through the building instead of removing it. A visible stack on a recently built house is not by itself evidence that anything is working, which is worth knowing before an inspection period closes.
